Tabarka Tunisia

tabarka

Tabarka is a coastal town in northwestern Tunisia. Its name is of Berber origin and etymologically means "the land of heather" likely to appeal to a diverse clientele. Golfing enthusiasts will be able to measure the course of Tabarka, which surprises and thrills in a mixing pine trees, flowering shrubs, lakes and vistas of the sea below the cliffs. It is a  tourist town known for diving activities (seabed fish or fishing grouper and lobster) and the coral used in jewelry. It is also known by its festivals including the famous Tabarka Jazz Festival.

The city is overlooked by a rock on which is built a Genoese fort. Nature lovers will visit the shores of Lake Ichkeul , where migratory birds come in winter.
In Tabarka, take a walk through the typical streets of the city and the outskirts of Fort Genoese which woverlook over the coast from the fifteenth century. Then, then, continue along the shore to the Needles: a set of rocks high of nearly 20 meters to arrive at the new open-air theater. Hiking and horseback riding are available in the forest between Tabarka and Ain Draham.

15 km from Ain Draham, is Hammam Bourguiba, a spa famous for its sulphurous waters that offer courses of care for respiratory and joint problems. Visit also the Museum of Liege which is at the center of Tabarka, for info on the extraction and processing of this versatile material. On the road of Tabarka, make a stop at Sejnane,a home to many nests of storks. Leaving the village, you can stop to buy Berber origin pottery  proposed by young women.
